Dr. Michael R. Boldt has been providing general restorative and cosmetic dentistry in Medford, OR, for over 27 years. We sat down to talk with him about what it takes to have a successful dental practice.
Dr. Boldt, you’ve been in the dental business a long time. Can you give us a little background?
I have always wanted to be a dentist since growing up in Salem, OR. I did my undergraduate degree at Oregon State University and then OHSU school of Dentistry in Portland. I have taken advanced training courses all over the country, including the LD Pankey Institute, Orognathic Bioesthetics International, and most recently I have achieved “Mentor” status at the Kois Center in Seattle, WA.
And when did you start Boldt Dental?
We started in 1986 with the mission to be committed to provide excellent care, appropriate for our patients’ circumstances, in an atmosphere of sincere compassion, honesty, integrity, and humor.
What’s your personal approach to patient care?
I enjoy helping people. Determining what is happening and why, as well as finding the right treatment to help solve problems, is very enjoyable. I have always treated patients as I would want to be treated; it seems to be working well.
Glad to hear it. Which aspects of dentistry are your focus?
We provide general restorative and cosmetic dentistry. I’ve found that patients like to have treatment done in one place, so I have been fortunate that I enjoy all aspects of dentistry.
What do you find are the most difficult parts of running your own dental business?
Getting new patients, getting patients to want the dentistry they need, dealing with all the regulations and requirements, and any time things don’t go as planned.
Any managerial tips to help with the difficult days?
Hire great people and try to stay out of their way.
