Gum with sugar is likely to accelerate bacterial growth and tooth decay. However, sugar-free gum containing xylitol can be a man or woman’s best friend and advocate in fighting tooth decay. The chewing action and the flavor of the gum will stimulate saliva production. Xylitol also has properties that fight off certain types of bacteria.
No one should ever let acidic foods linger in the mouth. All people should swallow them immediately upon chewing them and also rinse the mouth out with water. Another tip is to use a straw to drink acidic drinks and avoid swishing such things around in the mouth.
